Francigena – Novellario a.D. 1107

L’antica via Francigena fa da sfondo al romanzo storico di Simone Covili, Elisa Guidelli e Gabriele Sorrentino intitolato Francigena – Novellario a.D. 1107 che, come suggerisce il titolo stesso, non racconta solo le storie intrecciate di un folto gruppo di pellegrini che si sposta dalla Val di Susa per raggiungere Roma, ma è anche un originale novellario che raccoglie, rielabora e si ispira a fatti, folclore e letteratura del periodo altomedievale.

Due monaci in viaggio verso Farfa per una questione legata a un importante manoscritto; un cavaliere britannico senza più patria e una fanciulla smarrita senza più famiglia; un vecchio e fiero soldato normanno che ha partecipato alla presa di Gerusalemme durante la prima crociata; un abile fabbro a cui viene affidata una missione speciale; un nano giullare e un uomo misterioso ricoperto da un mantello che cela la sua identità e il suo passato; un cavaliere franco segnato da una maledizione e due fratelli che anelano a un miracolo. Sono questi i protagonisti del romanzo, che durante il tragitto prendono spunto dai luoghi in cui transitano o sostano per raccontare novelle, forme narrative amatissime nel Medioevo: un omaggio sincero per valorizzare e riscoprire la storia di una strada che ha visto e vede ancora oggi transitare uomini e idee.

Francigena – Novellario a.D. 1107 è un progetto ad ampio respiro, concepito non solo come romanzo. Il progetto vuole essere una vera e propria guida che indica luoghi storici, di ristoro e di accoglienza lungo l’itinerario italiano della via Francigena, e in questo sito web riunirà filmati e brani inediti, notizie e curiosità legate alla promozione del libro, che possa promuovere il turismo culturale alla ricerca di quelle storie e di quei luoghi che fanno da sfondo alle vicende dei personaggi principali. La ricchezza del romanzo sta nella volontà e nella capacità di raccogliere informazioni sull’enogastronomia, sugli episodi dei santi e sui luoghi di culto, sulle tradizioni orali e sulle leggende locali, sui grandi personaggi della Storia, mescolando fatti realmente accaduti alla fantasia degli autori e rendendolo adatto al puro intrattenimento, alla divulgazione nelle librerie, nelle pro loco e negli uffici turistici, nelle scuole.

The ancient Francigena road is the background of the historical novel Francigena – Novellario a.D. 1107 by Simone Covili, Elisa Guidelli and Gabriele Sorrentino. As the title itself suggests, it is not only the narration of the ravelled stories of a large group of pilgrims travelling from Val di Susa to Rome, but it is also an original collection of tales that collect, rewrite and draw inspiration from facts, folklore and literature of the upper medieval period. Two monks travelling to Farfa because of a matter linked to an important manuscript; a British knight with no more motherland and a lost maiden with no more family; an old and valiant Norman soldier that took part in the capture of Jerusalem during the first crusade; a skilled blacksmith with a special mission; a dwarf jester and a mysterious man in a cloak that conceals his identity and his past; a French knight marked by a curse and two brothers longing for a miracle. These are the main characters of the novel and they draw inspiration from the places through which they travel or where they stop to narrate their tales, a literary genre that was very popular in the Middle Ages: a genuine tribute to estimate and re-discover the history of a road that saw and still sees the passage of men and ideas.
Francigena – Novellario a.D. 1107 is a wide-ranging project and it is not only conceived as a novel. This project is meant to be a real guide that shows historical sites, where to eat and accommodation facilities along the Italian route of Francigena road. It also includes a web site with filmed sequences and unpublished passages, news and curiosities about the promotion of the book with the aim of promoting cultural sightseeing in search of the places that form the background of the main characters’ adventures. The richness of this novel is in the pursuit and ability of gathering information about wines and food, saints’ stories and worship places, oral traditions and local legends, famous historical characters, mixing true facts with the authors’ fantasy thus making it suitable for pure entertainment and for distribution in book shops, pro loco, tourist information offices and schools.
The pages of this novel are embellished by seven original tables showing the pilgrims, the main characters of the story, drawn in pencil by Franco Garioni and Michela Salotti.

La vieille route Francigena représente la toile de fond du roman historique de Simone Covili, Elisa Guidelli et Gabriele Sorrentino intitulé Francigena – Novellario a.D.1107 qui, comme suggère le titre même, ne raconte pas seulement les histoires entrelacées d’un nombreux groupe de pèlerins qui se déplace de la Val di Susa pour atteindre Rome, mais il s’agit également d’une récolte originale qui rassemble, élabore à nouveau et s’inspire à des faits de folklore et de littérature de la période du haut moyen âge. Deux moines en voyage vers Farfa pour une affaire liée à un manuscrit important; un chevalier britannique désormais sans patrie et une jeune fille perdue sans aucune famille; un soldat norman vieux et fier qui a participé à la prise de Jérusalem durant la première croisade; un forgeron habile auquel on confie une mission spéciale; un nain jongleur et un homme mystérieux recouvert par un manteau qui cache son identité et son passé; un chevalier franc signé par une malédiction et deux frères qui espèrent en un miracle. Il s’agit des protagonistes du roman qui, durant le trajet, prennent des idées des lieux qu’il traversent ou s’arrêtent pour raconter des contes, formes narratives très aimées dans le Moyen Age: un hommage sincère pour valoriser et redécouvrir l’histoire d’une route qui a vu et qui voit encore aujourd’hui, passer des hommes et des idées.
Francigena – Novellario a.D.1107 est un projet ambitieux, conçu non seulement comme roman. Le projet veut être une véritable guide qui indique des lieux historiques , de réconfort et d’accueil le long de l’itinéraire italien de la route Francigena et prévoit un site web qui réunit des films et des morceaux inédits, des nouvelles et des curiosités liées à la promotion du livre et qui puisse promouvoir le tourisme culturel à la recherche des ces histoires et de ces lieux qui sont le scénario des faits et des personnages principaux. La richesse du roman se trouve dans la volonté et la capacité de recueillir des informations sur l’énogatronomie, sur les épisodes des saints et sur les lieux de culte, sur les traditions orales et sur les légendes locales, sur les grands personnages de l’Histoire, en mélangeant des faits qui se sont vraiment passés à la fantaisie des auteurs en le rendant adapté au pur amusement , à la diffusion dans les librairies , dans les pro loco et dans les offices du tourisme, dans les écoles.
